The information for the American Express Business Gold Card has been collected independently by Motley Fool Money. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Why we picked it: The American Express Business Gold Card has a 0% intro APR for 6 months from the date of account opening on purchases (terms apply). With a $375 annual fee (see rates and fees), it isn't exactly a cheap card, but it offers $395 in annual statement credits that can more than justify the cost for many small business owners. The card earns Amex Membership Rewards points at a rate of as much as 4X points per $1 in two categories where you spend most ($150,000 annual spending cap). Terms apply.

What to watch for: The $375 annual fee is only worth paying if your business gets enough value from the card's benefits to justify its cost. Plus, the 0% intro APR period isn't particularly long, so it might not meet your business's financing requirements.

Why we picked it: In addition to offering a 0% intro APR for 12 months on purchases, the Blue Business Cash™ Card from American Express has a flat rewards rate of 2% cash back on all eligible purchases on up to $50,000 per calendar year (terms apply). This is an excellent cash back rate for a no annual fee card.

Benefits of getting a 0% intro APR business credit card

0% intro APR offers aren't nearly as common in the small business credit card world as they are in the consumer credit card industry. And when you can find them, the 0% intro APR offers are typically only for purchases. It's extremely rare to see balance transfer offers in small business credit cards.

If you can find one, a 0% intro APR business credit card can be a fantastic financial tool. For one thing, it can be a great way for your business to spread a large purchase over a period of six to 12 months. For example, if you own a restaurant and need to buy a new fryer, a 0% intro APR can allow you to pay for it a little at a time, with no interest at all.

A 0% intro APR credit card can also help your business manage cash flow, which can be an especially big perk for a newer business. As an example, let's say that you have an order for $20,000 worth of merchandise that will cost you $5,000 to produce, but you won't get paid for another 60 days. A 0% intro APR credit card can allow you to cover the production costs until your customer pays you, and with no interest expense whatsoever.

TIP

Best for shorter-term borrowing needs

There are plenty of options for small business loans and line of credit products in the market. But a 0% intro APR credit card can help you avoid interest in situations where you don't need more than 12 months to pay for a purchase.

How to choose the right 0% intro APR business credit card

There's no such thing as a financial product that is perfect for everyone, and that's certainly true in the world of small business credit cards. So, while deciding which is the best choice for you and your small business, here are some of the factors to consider.

0% intro APR period

Our top 0% intro APR small business credit cards have introductory rates that last from six months to 12 months. Be sure the 0% intro APR period is sufficient for the needs of your business.

Rewards

All of our favorite 0% intro APR small business credit cards offer some type of rewards in the form of cash back or points, but the structure of the rewards can be very different from one card to the next. For example, a 3% cash back rate on travel purchases might not be an asset to someone who owns a convenience store, but could be incredibly lucrative for someone who regularly attends conferences.

Annual fee

Some of our top business credit cards have annual fees, but these can be well worth paying if the card offers enough value to your business. Be sure to look at a card's perks and benefits before dismissing a card simply because it has a seemingly high annual fee.

Other benefits

Some small businesses credit cards offer purchase protections, travel insurance, and other valuable perks. Be sure to read the full description of what a 0% intro APR small business credit card offers before you apply.

How to get a 0% Intro APR business credit card

Despite the common misconception that you need to have an incorporated business or meet a specific revenue target in order to qualify for a business credit card, that's not the case. As long as you have earned income from a source other than a W-2 job, you can potentially qualify for a business credit card. This includes freelancers and gig workers in addition to more traditional small business owners.

The requirements to get a business credit card are similar to those for a personal credit card. You'll need a strong credit score (depends on the specific credit card you're applying for), sufficient income to justify a new credit line, and a tax ID number (self-employed people can use their Social Security number if they don't have an EIN).

To recap, the best 0% intro business credit cards:

FAQs

  • Unlike with personal credit cards, 0% intro APR offers for balance transfers are virtually unheard-of in the small business credit card industry. The short version is that business debt is generally perceived to be riskier than personal debt, and therefore lenders are likely more hesitant to loan money to a small business for an existing debt without getting any interest in return.

  • As of November 2024, the longest 0% intro APR period offered by a top small business credit card was 12 months. However, credit card companies run promotional offers regularly, so it's entirely possible that a longer period could become available.

  • Most credit card companies don't publicly reveal their credit scoring requirements, but it's fair to assume that you'll need at least a "good" credit score, which is typically defined as a FICO® Score of about 660 or greater. However, other factors (such as your income, other debts, and how long you've been in business) are likely to affect an approval decision.
