    • 0% introductory APR for 12 months on purchases

Why we picked it: Pretty much any small business owner can make use of this card's bonus categories. And since there's no annual fee, you don't need to maximize them all to make the card worthwhile. The welcome bonus and intro APR offer are cherries on top.

What to watch for: This card charges foreign transaction fees, so don't use it abroad or when purchasing from foreign vendors (if those purchases route through a foreign bank). The flat rewards rate also isn't the best, so you may want to add a better flat-rate rewards card for purchases that don't fit the bonus categories.

Why we picked it: Ultimate Rewards points are very popular travel rewards that can be quite valuable when transferred to travel partners. This card earns them in spades, too, especially if your major expenses include shipping, online advertising, communications, and/or travel.

What to watch for: If you don't travel much, the rewards will be less valuable to you. Since the card has an annual fee, you should do the math to determine whether the rewards you earn will be worth the cost.

Why we picked it: Not every business expense fits neatly into popular bonus categories. This card can help you still maximize those purchases with unlimited 1.5% cash back on purchases. It also has no annual fee and a competitive welcome offer.

What to watch for: You can find a lot of consumer cards with higher flat cash back rates, and even a few business cards, though some will have annual fees. This card also has a foreign transaction fee, so it's not a good pick to use while traveling or making purchases from foreign vendors.

If you're running a high-volume business and just want to maximize your rewards without a lot of hassle, this card could be a great fit.

What to watch for: It will take a significant amount of spending for the higher-than-average cash back rate to cover this card's annual fee. You really need to crunch the numbers on your business's card spend to decide if it's worth the high fee.

Why we picked it: This card has a number of ways it can pay for itself, including free checked bags, lounge passes, and an anniversary bonus. It also has a competitive welcome bonus that can help boost your United frequent flyer miles account.

What to watch for: This is a cobranded card, so you earn United miles with it instead of Chase Ultimate Rewards points. Plus, all of the perks are centered around United. As such, you probably won't get much value out of this card if you don't fly United at least a couple times a year.

How to choose the right Chase business credit card for your business

Choosing between the different Chase business credit cards comes down to answering a few basic questions:

  • What kind of rewards do you want? You can earn cash back, travel rewards, or even hotel and airline loyalty points.
  • Do you want to pay an annual fee? This might be worth it if you'll earn significantly more in rewards or get other perks, but you should do the math to make sure.
  • How much are you going to spend on the card? Some rewards cards have caps, others have fees; your average credit card spend could decide the best pick.
  • Do you have any personal Chase credit cards? You can pool rewards across personal and business Chase accounts.

Keep in mind that the best solution for your business may not be a single Chase credit card. For example, you could use the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card for the bonus categories, and the Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card for other purchases -- while paying no annual fee for either.

You can also adopt the so-called Chase Trifecta: one card that earns Ultimate Rewards points, one flat-rate card, and one card with the most useful bonus categories. This allows you to use all of your rewards for travel, even from the cards that are marketed as earning cash back.

How to apply and sign up

You can apply for a Chase business credit card in person at a Chase bank branch, or you can do it in a few minutes online. You'll just need to provide some basic information, such as:

  • Name of the business and owner
  • Business address and phone number
  • Industry and structure
  • Number of employees
  • Annual revenue
  • Tax ID (EIN, or Social Security number for sole proprietor)
  • Owner's Social Security number

Chase will check both your business credit profile and your personal credit profile when you submit your application. Often, you'll get a decision within a few minutes.

In some cases, you may receive a pending notice. This usually indicates Chase needs additional information about you or your business. You may need to call in and/or submit documents to clarify or verify something from your application.

Do I need to have a business to get a Chase business credit card?

Yes, you need to be a business owner to get a Chase business credit card. However, this is a wide category, including:

  • Sole proprietors
  • Contractors
  • Freelancers
  • Partnerships
  • LLCs
  • Corporations

How much revenue do I need to get a Chase business credit card?

Chase doesn't publish any minimum revenue requirements, but you'll do best if you have at least some revenue. That said, Chase knows businesses aren't necessarily profitable when they're just getting started.

Whatever you do, don't lie about your revenue. It is not uncommon for banks to ask you to verify your claims through documentation.

What credit score do I need for a Chase business credit card?

You'll do best if you have a personal credit score of at least 670 when applying for a Chase business credit card. A good business credit score may help balance a lower personal credit score, but Chase doesn't require your business to have its own credit profile to qualify.

Does the 5/24 rule apply to Chase business credit cards?

Yes when you apply, then no.

The Chase 5/24 rule is an unpublished-but-well-known restriction that means you'll be denied a new Chase credit card if you've opened five or more new personal credit card accounts over the last 24 months.

If you are over the 5/24 limit, you will likely be denied a new Chase business card. However, Chase doesn't report your business cards to your personal credit. So, once you've opened the card, it won't count against your 5/24 limit in the future.

Benefits of getting a Chase business credit card

There are a lot of reasons to get a business credit card in general, as well as for getting a Chase business credit card in particular. Here are just a few:

  • Keeping your personal and business expenses separate.
  • Access to reusable financing for business expenses year-round.
  • Earning bonus rewards in business-friendly categories.
  • Managing your credit card account easily online and through the Chase mobile app.
  • Having a variety of customer service options, including online, by phone, and in person at a local branch.

Our credit card methodology

At Motley Fool Money, we rate credit cards on a five-star scale (1 = poor, 5 = best). Our rating criteria includes rewards rates, welcome bonuses, fees, and perks like travel credits and 0% intro APR offers to evaluate our ratings.

Our highest-rated credit cards have:

  • A rewards rate above 2% (or 2x points or miles) with average spending, or competitive 0% intro APR balance transfer and purchase offers
  • Attainable welcome bonuses that make up for any annual fees
  • Low annual fees or a balance transfer fee of 3%
  • Top perks such as purchase and travel protections, no foreign transaction fees, travel credits, and status upgrades

We combine these factors with an evaluation of brand reputation and customer satisfaction to ensure you're getting the best card recommendations. Learn more about how Motley Fool Money rates credit cards.
