Many or all of the products here are from our partners that compensate us. It’s how we make money. But our editorial integrity ensures that our product ratings are not influenced by compensation. Terms may apply to offers listed on this page.

There are a lot of benefits to having good credit. You'll have an easier time qualifying for a credit card and have plenty more options to choose from. You can even earn impressive rewards in the process.

Here are the best credit cards for good credit.

  • Our team of experts reviewed over 260 credit cards
  • We evaluate all credit cards across the same 4 key criteria: value, welcome experience, fees, and perks
  • Our credit card ratings are never influenced by our advertising partners
  • If we wouldn't recommend an offer to a close family member, we won't recommend it to you

Great for: Sign-up bonus and cash rewards

Why this card is best for good credit: The Discover it® Cash Back card has a lot to offer those with good credit. Activate its rotating quarterly bonus categories to enjoy 5% cash back, up to a quarterly spending limit that works out to as much as $300 in cash back per year (1% back across all other spending). But the welcome bonus has the potential to pay off big-time -- Discover will match all the cash back you’ve earned at the end of your first year. Earn $300 with your spending? You'll enjoy a total welcome bonus of $600.

What to know before applying: Need to transfer a balance? This Discover card can help you pay off an existing balance with 15 months of 0% APR, and it has a 3% intro balance transfer fee, up to 5% fee on future balance transfers (see terms)*. This card also comes without an annual fee, and with well-rated customer service.

When to consider an alternative: Keeping up with rotating bonus categories might mean more time spent managing your card. Opt for a flat-rate rewards card or one with fixed bonus categories that you spend a lot in to simplify your life.

Why this card is best for good credit: Consumers with good credit can take advantage of great travel perks with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. Its welcome bonus is incredibly valuable, especially when redeemed through Chase Travel, and you can clean up on points with this card -- the rate of 3X points per $1 on dining purchases is a great way to help cover future vacation costs.

What to know before applying: You might be able to get even more value for your rewards points by transferring them to a Chase travel partner. This list includes major domestic and international air carriers as well as three hotel chains.

When to consider an alternative: Most top travel cards have an annual fee, and the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is no exception. That said, its fee is on the lower end, as some travel cards will cost you $400, $500, or more. If you'd prefer not to pay any annual fee at all, look at a different card option.

Why this card is best for good credit: Why not reward your strong credit score with 2% cash rewards on everything you buy -- with no limit? The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card (see rates and fees) is a solid pick for a one-card wallet, or if you just want a card with a higher base rewards rate to be a catch-all for your purchases that don't fit into a bonus category.

What to know before applying: The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card has no annual fee, which is astonishing for a card that offers this much value. It also has a great and easy-to-achieve welcome bonus, and a solid intro APR offer that could help you finance a big purchase over time.

When to consider an alternative: If you want to earn higher rewards rates in common bonus categories, like groceries, dining, or travel, this won't be the card for you. It's also worth noting that it charges foreign transaction fees, so it's not the card to bring if you travel outside the U.S.

Why this card is best for good credit: The Chase Freedom Flex® offers a unique mix of rotating bonus categories that must be activated every quarter, and also a few fixed bonus categories. Max out those rotating bonus categories and enjoy up to $300 in Ultimate Rewards points back every year, on top of your earnings with 3% back on dining and at drugstores, and 1% everywhere else.

What to know before applying: Pairing this card with a Chase Sapphire card is a great way to maximize your Chase Ultimate Rewards points. You can transfer points earned on your Chase Freedom Flex® to the Sapphire Card, where you'll get extra value for them if you book travel through Chase.

When to consider an alternative: Don't want to mess with rotating bonus categories? You might want to opt for a good flat-rate rewards card instead -- or choose one with fixed bonus categories that you spend a lot of money in.

$200 Cash Back

  • What really stands out is the incredibly easy-to-earn sign-up bonus. You can earn a $200 sign-up bonus after spending only $500 in your first 3 months (that's like earning 40% cash back on that spend!). If a straightforward cash back program & sign-up bonus with a low spending hurdle is most important to you, then this card is a very solid pick. Read Full Review

    • Competitive sign-up bonus
    • Solid cash back rate on purchases

    • Great intro APR
    • Card perks
    • Rewards do not expire for the life of the account

    • Earn unlimited 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, where you'll get Capital One's best prices on thousands of trip options. Terms apply
    • No rotating categories or sign-ups needed to earn cash rewards; plus, cash back won't expire for the life of the account and there's no limit to how much you can earn
    • 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months; 19.49% - 29.49% variable APR after that; balance transfer fee applies

Why this card is best for good credit: It doesn't get any easier than this card if you've got good credit. The Capital One Quicksilver (see rates and fees) earns 1.5% cash back across all your spending, and the amount you can earn is unlimited. And if you're a world traveler, you can book travel through Capital One and take this card along -- it has no foreign transaction fees.

What to know before applying: This Capital One card offers a ton of flexibility for using your cash rewards. You can redeem them for cash back (either as a statement credit or in the form of a check) or gift cards, or book travel. You can also redeem your rewards via PayPal or Amazon. Your rewards don't expire for the life of the account.

When to consider an alternative: That 1.5% rate isn't the highest we've seen, so if you want a one-card wallet with the highest earning potential, you might want to consider a different card. There are also other options with much higher rates on common bonus categories, like dining or groceries.

Long intro balance transfer APR

  • This is one of our favorite cards for balance transfers. It has 0% intro APR for 21 months on balance transfers and a discounted balance transfer fee for the first four months. That combo makes it one of the most generous balance transfer offers we’ve seen. But it doesn't have much ongoing value after the intro 0% APR period ends. Read Full Review

    • No Late Fees, No Penalty Rate, and No Annual Fee... Ever
    • 0% Intro APR for 21 months on balance transfers from date of first transfer and 0% Intro APR for 12 months on purchases from date of account opening. After that the variable APR will be 18.24% - 28.99%, based on your creditworthiness. Balance transfers must be completed within 4 months of account opening.
    • There is an intro balance transfer fee of 3% of each transfer (minimum $5) completed within the first 4 months of account opening. After that, your fee will be 5% of each transfer (minimum $5).
    • Stay protected with Citi® Quick Lock

Why this card is best for good credit: If you've got good credit but a lingering credit card balance, it's worth considering the Citi Simplicity® Card. It offers one of the longest 0% intro APR periods we've seen, at 21 months on Balance Transfers. And you can transfer that balance to this Citi card with a balance transfer fee that's on the lower end of the norm for these fees.

What to know before applying: The Citi Simplicity® Card goes light on fees. You won't pay an annual fee or a fee for late payments. And if you accidentally pay late, you won't have to worry about it resulting in a penalty APR.

When to consider an alternative: Unfortunately, this card doesn't have a rewards program to speak of -- helping you finance a big purchase or pay off an existing balance is where it shines. Look for another card option (perhaps on this page?) if you want to earn rewards.

Why this card is best for good credit: Those with good credit can enjoy the highest rewards at supermarkets we've seen. If groceries are a major part of your budget, you don't want to miss the Amex Blue Cash Preferred -- you can earn a whopping 6% cash back on up to $6,000 worth of annual spending at U.S. supermarkets (terms apply).

What to know before applying: Don't spend much on groceries? That's OK. If you've got a long commute by car or by public transportation, this Amex card has your back with 3% cash back on gas, tolls, and more (terms apply). It also earns 6% back on select streaming services (terms apply).

When to consider an alternative: This Amex card has an annual fee after the first year (see rates and fees), but in my experience, it's easy to out-earn the fee in cash back. If you're concerned your spending might not be equal to the task, explore the many no fee options on this page.

What to know before applying: If you need a solid balance transfer offer to pay off existing debt, this Capital One card offers 15 months of intro 0% APR. (See rates and fees.) Its balance transfer fee is also just 3% for the first 15 months; 4% at a promotional APR that Capital One may offer you at any other time, which is a good deal for this type of fee.

When to consider an alternative: Want to zero in on one of these bonus categories where you spend more, in exchange for a higher rewards rate? There are other cards on this list that pay rates higher than 3%.

What is a good credit score?

A good credit score is a FICO® Score between 670 and 739 or a VantageScore between 661 and 780. In both scoring systems, the full score range is 300 to 850.

You likely have good credit if you've used credit for at least one to two years, always make your debt payments on time, and keep your credit utilization below 30%. You may also be in this range if you've used credit for a longer period of time with only the occasional issue, such as one missed payment or high credit utilization.

However, keep in mind that not all good credit scores are created equal. Scores of 675 and 730 both fall in the good credit range. But the latter would help you get better terms on a mortgage and would make approval on credit card applications more likely.

Factors that affect your credit score

Several different factors influence your credit score:

  • Payment history: Creditors want to see that you pay your bills on time. If you have late payments or missed payments on your credit report, this will negatively impact your payment history and, in turn, your credit score. Your payment history makes up 35% of your FICO® Score, so it's important to pay all of your bills on time.
  • Credit utilization: How much available credit you use matters. Your credit utilization ratio, or the ratio of your total credit card balances to your credit card makes up 30% of your credit score. The lower your credit utilization, the better off your credit will be.
  • Credit inquiries: Card issuers tend to become cautious when you have multiple recent hard credit inquiries on your report. They'll wonder why you're trying to get all these new lines of credit. You're more likely to be approved for a new card if it has been at least three to six months since your most recent credit card application. This factor makes up 10% of your score.
  • Age of credit: Your credit age is another important factor and it makes up 15% of your credit score. A variety of factors make up the age of your credit. This includes the average age of your credit accounts, the ages of each individual credit account, the age of your newest credit account, and the length of time since using each credit account. Having older accounts can help raise your credit score.
  • Credit mix: Your credit mix is the diversity of your credit accounts. You can increase your credit score by having a variety of accounts, such as an auto loan, credit cards, and mortgage. This shows lenders that you can manage having different kinds of debts. Credit mix makes up 10% of your FICO® Score.

What are the best credit cards for a 700 credit score?

Not all of the best credit cards for good credit are the best fit for everyone. You'll want to consider the following:

  • Are you looking for a rewards card?
  • Do you want to take advantage of a bonus offer?
  • Do you need an introductory 0% APR offer?
  • Would you prefer a card with no annual fee?

Making those considerations can help you narrow down card options and make choosing a credit card easier.

How to raise your credit score from good to excellent

Although there's nothing wrong with having good credit, it's important to keep building it. With excellent credit, it's easier to get approved for any credit card you want.

At this stage of the game, avoiding mistakes is crucial. You can damage your credit much faster than you can improve it. To stay on the right track, you should:

  • Avoid overspending: Once you've reached a good credit score, you'll gain access to larger credit lines. Don't let those big numbers convince you to spend more than usual. If your balances get too high, it can be bad for your credit utilization or put you into debt.
  • Pay everything by the due date: A single missed payment can undo all your hard work. That means a missed payment on anything -- a credit card, a cellphone bill, or an auto loan. Set up automatic payments or payment alerts so you always know when a bill's due.
  • Watch your credit utilization: One way to do this is by calculating 30% of your total available credit (the credit limits on all your credit cards added together). Then make sure your balances don't exceed that number.
  • Keep credit cards open: A common consumer mistake is closing credit cards for no reason. You'll be losing that card's credit line, so if you're carrying balances on any other cards, your credit utilization will increase. Of course, canceling a credit card that charges a high annual fee and that you don't use isn't a bad idea. But you can always call the issuer and ask to downgrade your card to one with no annual fee if possible.
  • Don't go on application sprees: While one card application isn't a big deal, if you're applying too often, it will keep you from making progress on your credit. You'll have too many hard credit inquiries, and every time you're approved for a card, your average account history will decrease.
  • Guard your credit: It doesn't get much worse than doing everything right, only for an identity thief or an error to ruin your credit. To avoid this, use a free credit monitoring service for notification of changes on your credit file. Don't forget to check your credit reports for errors each year as well.

FAQs

  • According to credit score data reflecting 2023 from credit bureau Experian, 22% of Americans have a credit score in the good range -- and 71.3% of us have credit scores that are good or better.

  • Using a credit card responsibly is an easy way to raise your credit score. This means keeping your balance below 30% of available credit, paying your bill on time every month, and maintaining old credit card accounts.

  • Aside from easier approval for the best credit cards, there are other perks that come with having good credit. You will likely have an easier time getting approved to rent an apartment, can open utility bill accounts without a deposit, and you may get lower auto insurance rates if you live in a state where insurers can check credit scores.
