This credit card is a good fit for: Rewards maximizers who live in a Huntington Bank service area.
The Huntington Voice Rewards Credit Card has some nice benefits, including the ability to choose your bonus categories.
The great thing about the Huntington Voice Rewards Credit Card is that you're in control of your bonus category. You'll earn 3x points per dollar on up to $2,000 in purchases in your bonus category each quarter (1x point per dollar after that). Plus, you can choose a new category each quarter.
Currently, the categories include:
Rewards have a set redemption rate of $0.01 per point, so this is effectively a 3% cash back card. If you maximize your bonus category spend, you could earn up to $60 in rewards each quarter. That's $240 a year in cash back, statement credits, or other redemptions.
While 3% back isn't the highest cash back rewards rate out there, it's not a bad deal if you use it for categories not offered by other issuers. For example, auto parts and service is a hard bonus category to find -- one that can be quite costly if you need a lot of repair work done.
Additionally, some of the categories combine multiple purchase types. The utilities and office supply stores category, for example, could be especially nice for people who work from home.
Another point in the Huntington Voice Rewards Credit Card's favor is that it doesn't charge an annual card fee. A no annual fee card means it won't cost you anything just to keep your account open. This is especially handy in a card with only one bonus category. You can use the card just for those purchases, using other, higher-rate cards for purchases in more common bonus categories. Even if you can't maximize your bonus category, you're still coming out ahead because there's no fee to negate.
One nice thing about small bank credit cards is that they're a lot more likely to waive extra fees -- like foreign transaction fees. While many cash cards charge up to 3% in foreign transaction fees, you pay 0% with the Huntington Voice Rewards Credit Card. This can be very handy for people who travel, but also online shoppers. That's because foreign transaction fees can apply to any purchase in a foreign currency or transactions in U.S. dollars that route through a foreign bank.

There's nothing worse than remembering you have a credit card bill due -- about 12 hours too late. Being hit with that late fee because your bill slipped your mind by one day is a bummer. But the Huntington Voice Rewards Credit Card has you covered. Cardholders get an extra day to pay their bill before they're officially "late." Keep in mind that the regular payment cutoff times apply, and the method you use to make your payment dictates when your payment must be submitted.
The card has some serious drawbacks that make it untenable for many folks.
Like most small banks, Huntington has a limited footprint. You need to live in a state where Huntington operates to open an account (both credit card and bank accounts).
This includes:
Additionally, you must already have a Huntington online account to apply for the Voice Credit Card online. If you don't have an account, you're instructed to go to a branch or call customer service.
One of the common drawbacks of a small bank card vs. one from a larger issuer is the sign-up bonus. You're simply not going to find a $1,000 or higher sign-up bonus from a local bank or credit union. And, in the case of the Huntington Voice Rewards Credit Card, you may not get a sign-up bonus at all. While there are occasionally small bonuses -- usually in the $100 range -- the card doesn't have a consistent bonus. In most cases, the bonus offer seems to be available for only a small window of time or targeted to existing Huntington customers.
As far as welcome offers go, the Huntington Voice Rewards Credit Card is zero and two. Not only will you be unlikely to get a sign-up bonus, but you probably won't see an intro APR offer, either. And no, this isn't really a small bank thing; plenty of small bank credit cards offer some type of intro 0% APR deal. That said, you could forfeit rewards for the lower APR version of the Huntington Voice card, the Huntington Voice Lower Rate Credit Card. It doesn't have any rewards, but it does offer a 2% lower interest rate.

Huntington doesn't publish credit score requirements. However, as with most rewards cards we've reviewed, you'll probably want at least a good credit score for the best chance of approval. That being said, small banks tend to have less strict credit requirements than bigger banks, so you may get approved with a fair or average score.
The Huntington Voice Rewards Credit Card is a solid option for anyone who wants to fill a category gap in their rewards maximization strategy. It lets you choose your own 3x points bonus category, and the list includes a few uncommon categories that could be useful.
You'll need to live in a Huntington service area to apply, however, which is a big drawback. Plus, you may need to wait for one of the sporadic sign-up bonus offers if you're looking for a big win.
