If recent history is any indication, Apple (AAPL -2.41%) will unveil its next iPhone in September. The iPhone 6S is expected to resemble its predecessor, but sport improved internals, a better camera, and additional features, most notably Force Touch.

Apple's next smartphone, however, will have to contend with a wave of competition.
